The Frat Pack was a gift from the comedy Gods to humanity. When you think of comedy gold in the past few years, one of these guys probably comes to mind. Whether it’s Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn or Steve Carell on screen you’re bound to bust a gut.
While they have never all been in the same movie you can bet that when they do it just might be the best comedy we’ll ever see.
5) Zoolander (2001)
I love this movie! I know it’s really, really ridiculously silly, but it’s a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to quote. Ben Stiller is superbly dumb as Derek the male model and Owen Wilson as Hansel is so hot right now, Hansel. (Not a typo!) Stiller’s wife (Christine Taylor) and father (Jerry Stiller) make this movie a hilarious family affair. Will Ferrell as Mugatu is the cherry on-top of this runway and if you don’t agree with me, let’s just call a walk-off!
“Obey my dog!”
4) The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Wed Anderson is the man! Teaming up Mr. Anderson and some of The Frat Pack resulted in a wonderfully strange comedy. The family dynamics between Ben Stiller’s character and the Wilson brothers are ripe for comedy. Anjelica Houston, Gene Hackman and Gwyneth Paltrow round out this cast for one of the most amusing and strange families comedies to date.
“Anybody interested in grabbing a couple of burgers and hittin’ the cemetery?”
3) Old School (2003)
This film along with the college style of humor in many of their films helped coined this comedy team as The Frat Pack. Watching Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn playing guys way too old to party is way too funny. It’s packed with hilarious shenanigans, some heartwarming moments and even ones that will make you feel Blue. Along with a jam-packed cast this movie also contains thee best cover of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” that you will ever hear.
“Well why don’t you give me your number in case anything happens to my wife?”
2) Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
A huge part of me went into Journalism because of this movie. The smooth stylings of the Channel 4 News Team and the sunny skies of San Diego were more than enticing. This film is literally jam-packed with some of the best people in comedy and is the one film that contains almost every single member of The Frat Pack. While we can only hope Anchorman 2 is just as good, this one will always be a classic.
“You stay classy, San Diego. I’m Ron Burgundy?”
1) The Big Year (2011)
You would think that a movie about spotting birds would be incredibly boring, but this one was actually pretty great. The plot in itself is hilarious, grown men competing over who can spot the most birds in one year. Mixed in with some great comedic scenes is the beautiful scenery of British Columbia, providing a stunning backdrop for a goofy movie. Jack Black, Owen Wilson and honourary Frat Pack member, Steve Martin have wonderful chemistry and give us a movie that is not only humourous, but uplifting as well.
“This is a true story. Only the facts have been changed.”
