BY ISA MONTAGNESE
From the late 90s onward, all I cared about was cute **boyzzzz** Though the boyz at school were alright, my true obsessions were my movie boyfriends from teen romantic dramas and comedies. My options were actually super limited but in my tiny world I thought these teen boyz were the coolest, most exciting, totally dreamy studs.
Here is a list of my ultimate dream dates from the heyday of sensitive, non-threatening, feminine, brooding, super vanilla, all white, all straight, cookie cutter dreamboats. This formula for this kind of love interest hasn’t changed much over the years, but this short era of hetero heaven was what taught me about loooooove (I was like 13, okay?).
6) Devon Sawa
Sepcifically from Casper and Now and Then, this baby dreamboat was rocking that bowl cut like I wished every boy in my high school could have. So young, so green.
5) Paul Walker (RIP)
Paul was more known for darker teen stuff and, of course, car chase movies, but he’ll always live on in my heart as the douche from She’s All That. I don’t care what bad stuff he gets up to, he’s looking all smug and handsome in that beach scene.
4) Ryan Phillippe
Cruel Intentions Ryan is the only Ryan. Total bad boy, total a-hole until he learns about ~true love~. This movie to me was borderline xxx when I first saw it and full-lipped Ryan gave me all the feelings.
3) Josh Harnett
Full disclosure: I have a thing for the 70s, so a bell-bottom clad Harnett stole my heart in The Virgin Suicides, as you can imagine. Josh was all deep voice and tall but still soft like a baby. I’d still hit it.
2) Freddie Prinze Jr.
She’s All That was my favourite movie for a while there and it was mostly thanks to Freddie (with a little help from that gold dress the mean girl wears to prom). Freddie was the ultimate dreamboat: charming, handsome, kind of a jock but not in a meat-head way, sensitive with a great scowl and he had dark hair. *gasp*
1) Leonardo DiCaprio
Duh, right? Leo is the king of blond heartthrobs. Super broody, mopey and pretty intense and yet that baby face is making me want to tell him all my hopes and dreams. I owned two different copies of Romeo + Juliet, I watched The Beach more than once even tho I didn’t really get it, I saw Titanic five times in theatres, and I had a Leo calendar. Leo is king of my heart and will always be the dreamiest teen ever.
