WHERE THIS EVIL HAILS FROM: Twin Peaks
WHY THIS EVIL MADE ME FILLE THE FEAR: Twin Peaks, the town, is full of eerieness on account of the wonderful and strange people inhabiting it such as Agent Dale Cooper and his Bookhouse Boys, the Palmer family, Lucy the secretary and that lady with her log. But only this guy–who is actually less of a guy and more of an entity–is truly terrifying.
It’s not just that BOB looks like the standard serial killer type, what with his long ratty hair and horrifyingly mischevious grin (hey, those exact reasons are why David Lynch took him from being a set decorator on the pilot episode to being a star). He also acts in an extremely discomforting manner, creeping up on you as you least expect it like, you know, when you’re talking to your daughter’s best friend in a bright room the middle of the day. And as we learned as the show went on, he has the power to also lurk inside your body for long periods of time, using your poor human shell as a vehicle for performing the most disgustingly devilish deeds (rape, murder, incest, and the like). BOB is basically the embodiment of peer pressure at its worst, forcing us to invoke pain on others, while also invoking pain on ourselves as we have to live with the horrific memories of what “we” did.
HOW THIS EVIL STILL DOES: Aside from haunting our memories for all eternity by just existing? Well, if the end of Twin Peaks Season 2 is any indication, he’s still around in the real world too, living on in another damn fine host. And considering that David Lynch just announced a new season is on the way, we’re likely to get an update on his whereabouts and soon…
Oh wait, is that him right behind you? Sorry for making you look, but had to make sure you’re not him!
Seriously, though, the only thing we can be sure of in terms of BOB’s future is that he won’t be played by Frank Silva ever again. Unfortunately, Silva is long since passed. But there’s no doubt he will live on in infamy as BOB finds new untainted folks to prey on while hundreds of people visit Twin Peaks, the town and/or the series, for the first time.
