Cinefilles held its first event—a screening of Ginger Snaps co-hosted with The MUFF Society at The Carlton Cinema. We let our inner lycanthropic teenagers out to play and had a howling good time! There was trivia, prizes (sponsored by Netflix Canada, Horror Block and MoRoCo Chocolat!), a signature drink, professional grisly make-up effects by Kate Weichman from Doc’s Monster Design, and a photobooth with notable quotables from the film. We were also treated to a stellar short film “Not Til We’re Married,” with director Shannon Hanmar in attendance.
We were beyond delighted to have Ginger Snaps screenwriter Karen Walton in attendance for a Q&A session after the film, hosted by Cinefilles‘ own Emily Gagne. Walton revealed insight into the genesis of Ginger Snaps, and we learned a thing or two about the creation of the film’s Fitzgerald sisters and about making independent films in Canada.
We’re looking forward to hosting more events like this in the future! For now, check out some select photos from the event, taken by honourary fille Joshua Korngut, below!
